-How do meetings with a psychotherapist in private practice work? 

Therapy works best when sessions are consistent and held weekly. Sessions usually run 50 minutes. Depending on your personal goals, the duration of therapy will vary. Therapy is a deep and meaningful process and merits flexibility and patience. I am available to discuss concerns and questions you have about how scheduling and the process of therapy works.   

-Why do people go to therapy? 

Many people say they come to therapy because they don’t feel well mentally, emotionally, physically and/or spiritually. Change is common and yet it isn't always the easiest to deal with. As a species, we are often disconnected from the ability to soothe and heal ourselves causing stress and anxiety because we are often distracted and numbing ourselves in various ways.

Therapy is not always easy and it is not always hard. A client gets as much out of therapy as they put into it because therapy is an active and dynamic process. Each client is unique in their goals, therefore, my approach to the therapeutic work is eclectic. I spend time actively listening to what is being expressing in order to better understand and clarify what each person is working towards. I hold a collaborative and communicative role, while using Cognitive Based Mindfulness Therapy (CBMT), in order to helps clients be curious and more authentic by claiming the present moment and their present experience. Through this process people build the psychological, emotional and communication skills they need and want in order to experience more connection, awareness and relief.
